Description of the Project

Nations, that lose memory of their heritage do not have any future. They are also threatened by losing their identity. Education in the area of folk culture cultivates the pupils' affiliation to the region, has to prepare them for being active and responsible co-owner of region and country and also European Commonwealth participant.

Many UNESCO conventions, declarations charters being law base of The World Heritage Committee show that cultural heritage protection became a problem of the most countries of the world. The possibility of direct contact with cultural heritage should be considered as a basic human right. Common awareness of threat to that right attracts attention to problem of securing all that is historically important to the nation - it must be reflected in educating young generation. Awakening the sense of responsibility for folk culture in young generation, giving them knowledge of it are important tasks of school.

Problems associated with folk culture can be raised during history, art, music or educational lessons and outside of lessons hours as well. Pupil's observation show lack of knowledge of folk culture and shortage of patriotism. The lack of international contacts during which children would be able to learn about culture of other nations and to meet children form other countries intensifies incomprehension of that problem. As a result of that children use stereotypes of other nations and do not understand idea of multicultural Europe.

The project "Small explorers in a magic world of the European folk culture" was written for pupils at the age 6 - 13. The project realization should create the possibility for recognition of cultural heritage, as well as prepare for active and creative participation in the own region cultural life and teach respect for national culture. The project should give possibility to learn about home region, introduce to cultural life of local community and to folk culture, characters connected to it, the most important places, monuments and legends. By learning about different cultures and religions it teaches tolerance and openness towards others. The purpose of this project is building own personality by knowledge of yourself, relations to others and professional consultancy (finding personal direction for education and future job).

In unified, standardized world where every person, every nation seems to loose its own identity and uniqueness it is necessary to rediscover its own roots by comparing to people form other European countries in order to rebuild cooperation between countries.

TRADITION, MEMORY OF HERITAGE IS PAST, WHICH TEACHES HOW TO COPE WITH PRESENT AND FUTURE. Pupils will concentrate on things close to them like family, love, friendship in order to acquire deeper knowledge of themselves. As a result of this they will be conscious of their attitudes, skills and socioeconomic reality which surrounds them to make choices about their education and job.
